Reference Speakers; Leema Xanda's
Whilst no official UK press has been released yet our mainland European
brethren have been gifted a sneak preview of the mid to high end
system that Leema will put on sale in Spring 2009 in the UK.
Demand is always greater for the export market for this price
point and thus the obvious place to show first. Matt's
HiFi has already placed an order for the new high end speakers,
(RRP circa GBP8k) finished in customer's automotive colour of
choice, yes that's correct - spray paint, high gloss finishes of
your choice. To drive these wonderful beasts, which go by the name of
'Xanda'
and Leema monoblocks (imagine a trebble height Tucana - you get the picture)
have been twinned to deliver a superior sound.

Reference Product Range
There's a trio of new products on the way from
Leema Acoustics,
due out in January 2009: the Pyxis preamp (pictured), Altair
power amp and Agena phono stage. They're all part of Leema's
Reference series, designed to deliver state-of-the-art
performance. The Pyxis preamp (£3995) has single-ended and
balanced analogue inputs, an optional built-in MM/MC phono stage
and digital inputs for use with digital sources such as computer
hard drives. The Pyxis also has LIPS (Leema Intelligent Protocol
System) outputs to feed Leema power amplifiers with a full level
signal so that the corresponding volume is set at the input
stage of the power amplifier. "This ensures maximum signal-to
noise ratio and resolution of the audio signal even when
listening at very low volumes," says Leema. Leema's matching
Altair mono power amplifier (£8495) delivers 550W RMS at 8 ohms,
incorporates LIPS technology like the Pyxis, has two sets of WBT
NextGen speaker outputs for biwiring and balanced and
single-ended inputs. And for those who want to make the most of
their vinyl, there's the £2995 Agena phono stage. It has fully
adjustable inputs, each with two separate head-shell settings to
allow precise matching for up to six phono cartridges. The Agena
is configurable for MM or MC phono cartridges, has single-ended
RCA and fully balanced XLR outputs, while an analogue-to-digital
converter feeding USB and SPDIF digital outputs. Other user
features include mono, mute, high and low frequency filters, and
a sleep mode which turns off all processing and display
circuitry to ensure optimum sound quality.
